NSCDC CAME AT A TIME WE NEEDED ASSISTANCE SAYS-IDRIS IBRAHIM

The Gwoza/Bama Internally Displaced Persons Camp situated in Area 1, Abuja witnessed a blissful Ramadan Kareem season, as the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu and his team visited the camp with relief materials.

The Camp which comprises of eleven (11) sub camps received with joy materials ranging from bags of rice, clothing, cartons of indomie, beverages, seasoning, detergents, vegetable oil, pampers, soaps, sugar, spaghetti bags of salts among others. Muhammadu in his remark sympathised with the IDPs by saying that their situation is really pathetic and the action of the Corps was to ameliorate their critical condition.

He reiterated that, the people in the IDP camps are mere victim of circumstances and it is not their making to be there.

The Corps helmsman stressed that, the presentation was in line with mandate of the Corps as related to Disaster Management in the area of rescue, rehabilitation and provision of shelter.

He assured them of safety and security, provision of books and writing materials when he was briefed that approval has been given to operate nursery and primary school.

The Corps Chief Executive say recently in Maiduguri, the Corps personnel gunned down a suicide bomber who attempted to bomb the CBN office in Borno, arrested suspected Boko Haram kingpin and other discoveries on their activities, deployment of 5000 personnel to North East in appreciation of Mr. President and the Armed Forces for winning the war against insurgency.

The leader of the IDP Camp Idris Ibrahim Halihu who served as the National Coordinator, Government and Public Relations Affairs, on behalf of the displaced persons applauded the efforts of the Corps in reaching out to those of them in the IDP camps especially the Commandant General for personally leading his team  in spite his tight schedule.

Idris stated that, the intervention of the Corps through the provision of the food items and other valuables at a time they are in dire need of assistance is worthy of commendation and called on other corporate organisations and private individuals to emulate the gesture of the Corps in giving succour to the under-privileged people at the various camps.

He said the efforts of the Corps in providing security at IDP camps across the nation has allayed the fear of reprisal attacks on the armless population at the camps and brought back confidence in the security arrangement.

Idris said he is elated at the presence of the NSCDC personnel, stating that it is a confirmation that the Corps is a critical stakeholder in mitigation and management of disaster. He assured the Commandant General of judicious use and equitable distribution of the relief material to all and sundry. In addition, he complained of the deplorable living condition in the camp due to lack of basic amenities such as electricity, water and sanitary system.

Meanwhile, the women leader in the camp Iliyatu Ayuba, showing her appreciation on behalf of the women, narrated her efforts in assisting the women by teaching them how to be neat, industrious and how to be involved in midwifery.
