NSCDC Deploys 2,000 Personnel for FCT Polls
Ahead of the area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja on Saturday, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has stated that it has deployed 2,000 personnel to compliment security before, during and after the polls.
Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, while ordering the deployment, stressed that keen attention will be given to the election as Abuja is the Seat of Power, stating that FCT elections should be a paradigm to all other elections in the country.
Addressing officers and men of the Corps at the National Headquarters, Abuja, the CG urged the personnel to deliver on the NSCDC constitutional mandate.
Gana stated further that while elections in other states may have some form of skirmishes either big or small, that of Abuja, should be a hallmark of very decent free and fair election .
He enjoined politicians to tow the path of honour and play politics of maturity devoid of any form of gimmick, desist from going to political market to acquire thugs to unleash mayhem on perceived political opponents.
The CG also called on INEC to rise up to the occasion once more and be the unblemished Umpire they are seen to be by all, as the conduct of free and fair elections both in the FCT and other parts of Nigeria is their sole task to perform. He added that the assistance from all Security Agencies is participatory, as they are to ensure Law and Order which are all offspring of peace.
Gana admonished Security Operatives that while they discharge their constitutional roles, they should shun partisanship of any sort to advance the cause of any politician or any political party.
He said, ‘’ I plead with Parents and Guardians in the FCT, to please caution their wards against being used by politicians who will want to deploy self-help tactics to gain cheap popularity. Please note, that these sorts of politicians can never bring any of their child or children to do the job of a political thug, but they will always love to use the children of innocent Nigerians to do the satanic job of the Axe Man ‘’.
Meanwhile, the Intelligence Personnel have already been deployed to comb the FCT before Saturday’s election.
According to a statement by the Corps spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh, Acting DCG Operations, Hillary Madu Kelechi will lead the team. He would be assisted by 4 Commandants from neighbouring kaduna, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi States and 2000 NSCDC Personnel to maintain high level Law and Order during the conduct of the poll.
