NSCDC to investigate killing of a woman in Lagos

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Wednesday said it had begun investigations into the alleged killing of a woman in Lagos

The victim, one Angelina Dansu, a mother of four from Saponkoji Village near Ogogoro Village, an island in Apapa, Lagos State, allegedly lost her life during an NSCDC operation on May 10.

Donatus Ikemefuna, the new NSCDC Commandant in Lagos State, news men that his men went to arrest suspected pipeline vandals in the village last Saturday when the incident happened.

Ikemefuna said: “Our men were almost mobbed by some of the youths in the village during the raid.

“We saw many containers filled with petroleum products in the village.

“We discovered many jerry cans filled with kerosene in a shop owned by the deceased woman.

“She resisted arrest and escaped.

“When the NSCDC officers felt threatened, four officers shot into the air, one after the other.

“Some youths came with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

“Our men had to escape in a boat provided by the Nigerian Navy.

“We recovered about 4,000 litres of petroleum products during raid, but we left most of it behind because of the situation.

“We were surprised to hear that a woman died during the incident.

“I am wondering at what time my men would have fired other gunshots apart from the four officers.”

The commandant, however, added that the command would investigate the matter to unravel the true story.
