Elections: NSCDC asks FG, Anambra Govt for operational vehicles

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra Command, has appealed to Federal and Anambra governments to provide it with vehicles to cater for its logistic needs for the forthcoming general elections.

The Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr Ben Dikuro, made the appeal in an interview with the news men in Onitsha.

“We have planned to deploy no fewer than 3,000 officers and men for the elections in the state but the issue of vehicular logistics is a challenge,’’ Dikuro said.

“The 3,000 NSCDC officers and men, both uniformed and non-uniformed, would ensure peace during the conduct of the elections in the state.

“We see the elections as our primary responsibility in terms of ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he said.

According to him, one of the command’s achievements since his assumption of office in April 2014 was deterring criminals from carrying out their activities in the state.

“Our presence has curbed the activities of illegal bunkering, transportation of adulterated petroleum products and vandalism of national assets in the state,’’ the commandant said.

He said increasing the number of the organisation’s patrol vehicles would lead to increased surveillance on black spots as well as exit and entry points of the state.
