Our Mandates
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is a Federal Government Paramilitary Agency established to provide complementary security to the nation’s internal security architecture. Guided by the NSCDC Act No. 2 of 2003 and the Amendment Act No. 6 of 2007, the Corps is mandated to protect lives, safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent crimes, and support civil authorities in times of emergency.
Our responsibilities are broad but unified by a single mission: to ensure the safety, security, and resilience of Nigeria and her people.
Core Mandates
1. Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI)
We are responsible for safeguarding public infrastructure, strategic installations, and assets vital to Nigeria’s economy, such as power stations, oil and gas pipelines, telecommunications, water resources, railways, and other key facilities.
2. Disaster and Crisis Response
The Corps plays a crucial role in disaster management, emergency response, and humanitarian services, providing support during natural or man-made disasters to minimize loss of life and property.
3. Crime Prevention and Intelligence Gathering
Through intelligence, surveillance, and community engagement, the Corps works to prevent crimes, detect threats early, and support law enforcement operations.
4. Regulation and Monitoring of Private Guard Companies
We license, regulate, and monitor Private Guard Companies in Nigeria to ensure professionalism, adherence to standards, and contribution to national security.
5. Environmental and Pipeline Protection
The Corps combats oil theft, vandalism, and illegal bunkering activities, ensuring the security of pipelines and other energy infrastructure critical to the nation’s economy.
6. Safeguarding Schools and Communities
Through the Safe School Initiative and community-based programs, the Corps protects educational institutions, promotes early warning systems, and strengthens resilience against attacks and emergencies.
7. Collaboration with Security Agencies and Stakeholders
The Corps complements the efforts of other security agencies, working hand-in-hand with the Nigerian Police Force, Armed Forces, NEMA, and international partners to maintain peace and stability.
8. Training and Capacity Development
We are mandated to train citizens in civil protection, conflict resolution, first aid, and emergency management to build a culture of safety and preparedness across Nigeria.
Our Commitment
At NSCDC, we are committed to excellence, integrity, and service to humanity. Every action we take reflects our vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria where people and infrastructure are protected, and communities can thrive without fear.
