Vandals’ Attack Causes Another Petroleum Pipeline to Explode in Ogun

According to Kareem Olanrewaju, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vandals on Sunday attacked a petroleum pipeline in Ishasi Town, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, causing it to explode.

He said the explosion occurred at an area the NSCDC had noted was prone to vandalism.

He added that no life was lost to the explosion or the resultant fire and that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, was contacted immediately after the explosion who shut down the line immediately in order to reduce the volume of wastage of gasoline.

He said it took time to put out the fire because the fire fighters, who responded promptly, could not access the scene due to non-availability of functional canoes.

He also warned the users of the River Ogun, especially fishermen and villages along Isashi, to “abstain from its consumption for now; and (they) should not display naked fire to avoid fire outbreak or casualty.”
