The Commandant General of Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps Dr. Ade Abolurin in a media chat with Times News Paper of London agitate for a stiffer punishment for oil thieves and vandals.

He made this known to the cream of journalists who visited his office at the Corps Headquarters Abuja while briefing them on the Corps readiness in tackling the menace of vandalism by embarking on extensive enlightenment programmme in sensitizing and educating the populace on the evil of vandalism, oil theft and illegal bunkering as well as its devastating effect on the economic growth and development of the nation.

In seeking for legislation which will be global in nature, he says if in Europe, American, Asian and other countries of the world where crude oil are exported to stand their ground and say no to the sale of illegal oil or face the wrath of the law, it will put a stop to such nefarious activities of vandals. Therefore, the internationally community can collaborate in fighting oil theft and vandalism in Nigeria for it to become a thing of the past by refusing to patronize stolen crude from Nigeria.

It is when this is done that there will be reduction in oil theft, piracy, vandalism and illegal bunker because there will be no market to sell stolen product says Abolurin.

However, he reiterates the commitment of the Corps in partnering with other stakeholders in fighting the scourge of vandalism in the Nation with a view of putting the ugly phenomena to an end through surveillance, arrest, prosecution and enlightenment of the local communities as well as collaborating and synergizing with relevant agencies.

Reacting to a question on security state of Nigeria, he states that Nigeria is one of the safest place for investors no matter how the image has been negatively portrayed before the outside world. There is no society that is completely crime free whether developed or underdeveloped. Therefore, whatever is perceived or witnessed in Nigeria is lesser compare to what happens in other countries of the world. Nigeria should not be perceived as the only country that has challenges. With the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President all the challenges will soon be over taking into consideration the slogan of the National Orientation Agency
