The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its people-centered approach to safeguarding national assets, stressing that every Nigerian has a stake in protecting the nation’s wealth.
Addressing participants of Senior Executive Course 47 (SEC 47) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, delivered a lecture on the theme: “Safeguarding Critical National Assets in the Blue Economy for Sustainable Development in Nigeria: Implications for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.”
Professor Audi underscored that national assets are not mere structures or facilities, but the backbone of the economy that sustains millions of Nigerian households. According to him, the protection of oil pipelines, maritime routes, power installations, and other critical infrastructures directly translates to safeguarding jobs, livelihoods, and the economic future of the nation.
“When we protect critical national assets, we are protecting the ordinary trader in the market, the farmer in the village, the fisherman on our waters, and the children who deserve a prosperous tomorrow. Security is about people, and development is only possible when assets are safe,” he told the SEC 47 participants.
The lecture sparked robust engagement among the Senior Executive Course participants, who are drawn from strategic sectors of the nation and are being prepared to take up higher leadership roles. Professor Audi challenged them to see asset protection as a collective responsibility and to mainstream security considerations in national planning and governance.
He further noted that the NSCDC is working to deepen collaboration with communities, security agencies, and policymakers, stressing that sustainable development in the blue economy will only be achieved if all Nigerians contribute to its protection.
By engaging future leaders through this sensitization, the Corps is strengthening national consciousness on the importance of safeguarding what belongs to the people, ensuring that Nigeria’s wealth is preserved not just for today, but for generations yet to come.
